Postdoctoral Position (m/f/d)

Job offer from September 04, 2019

The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg, is looking offering a Postdoctoral Position (m/f/d)

The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg, Germany offers one Postdoctoral Position in the Group of Andrea Pichler working on the posttranslational modification with SUMO, the small ubiquitin related modifier.

The position is available for an initial one-year appointment with the possibility of extension.

The MPI in Freiburg is an international research institute at the cross-roads of Southern Germany, Switzerland and France. The working language is English. State-of-the-art infrastructure and service units, including transgenesis, mass spectrometry, proteomics, flow cytometry, fly and imaging facilities are available.

Our Institute investigates the molecular basis of the immune response and other topics of the developmental biology, such as the origin and differentiation of the immune cells as well as the develop-ment of vertebrate embryo. Another main focus of the Institute is Epigenetic. This area deals with inheritable traits, which are not caused by changes in the DNA sequence.

Your tasks:

The research focus of the Pichler laboratory is to study the regulation of SUMO conjugation. We identified the ZNF451 family as novel vertebrate specific family of SUMO E3 ligases (Eisenhardt et al NSMB 2015, Cappadocia et al, NSMB 2015, Koidl et al, IJBCB, 2016), and now aim to gain insights into their biological function in mammalian cells. Initial findings point to functions upon various stress treatments including DNA damage, replication stress and proteasome inhibition. We are using multidisciplinary approaches combining cell biology, biochemistry, enzymology as well as structural biology.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly-motivated, science-driven open minded scientist to join our team to unravel the cellular and molecular mechanisms regulated by SUMO conjugation.

Your qualifications:

Postdoctoral applicants should have an academic degree plus a PhD in biology or a related field with proven research experience in molecular biology, cell biology and/or biochemistry. Prior experience working on DNA replication, DNA damage repair or the ubiquitin system is an advantage. Furthermore, the ability to work in a team, and communication skills are an asset.

We offer:

Salary will be based on previous experience according to TVöD guidelines.

Handicapped applicants with equal qualifications will be given preferential treatment. The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in areas, where they are underrepresented, and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply. The Max Planck Society strives for gender and diversity equality. We welcome applications from all backgrounds. A childcare facility is directly attached to the institute.

Application deadline:

Have we sparked your interest? Please submit your complete application, including a statement of research interests and a CV directly at our online application portal until 02 October 2019.
