Technical Assistant (m/f/d)
Job offer from September 04, 2019
The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg, is looking for a Technical Assistant (m/f/d).
The position will be available in the Boehm department at the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics in Freiburg, Germany (http://www.ie-freiburg.mpg.de/boehm). The Boehm group addresses a number of cutting-edge research questions related to the development and evolution of the vertebrate immune system (for recent review see, Annu. Rev. Immunol. 36, 19-42, 2018). To support these studies, we seek a research technician, ideally with prior experience in recombinant protein expression, purification, and structure-function analysis.
This position is open immediately and initially funded for two years.
Our Institute investigates the molecular basis of the immune response and other topics of the developmental biology, such as the origin and differentiation of the immune cells as well as the development of vertebrate embryo. Another main focus of the Institute is Epigenetic. This area deals with inheritable traits, which are not caused by changes in the DNA sequence.
Your work will focus on the characterization of new protein families with presumed immunological functions in lampreys, the most primitive vertebrate species possessing an adaptive immune system. You will work in close collaboration with the group´s scientists, who address several aspects of the lamprey immune system.
You will work with a multi-disciplinary team that uses a wide range of modern techniques of nucleic acid and protein biochemistry.
Applicants should have completed vocational training as a technical assistant or have comparable qualifications. You ideally should have worked 2+ years in a research laboratory and have experience in methods of molecular biology, biotechnology, biochemistry, or related areas. We are looking for a dedicated and motivated team player, willing to work independently with tight deadlines. We expect you to have strong communication skills and a good command of the English language.
Based within a region that connects Germany, France and Switzerland, our institute hosts a vibrant community of international researchers, state-of-the-art facilities, and modern office spaces. A childcare facility is directly attached to the institute. At the heart of the Black Forest, Freiburg offers a family-friendly atmosphere and excellent recreational possibilities for cultural and outdoor activities. Salaries will be based on previous experience according to the German pay scale for civil service (TVöD) including health insurance and other social benefits.
Handicapped applicants with equal qualifications will be given preferential treatment. The Max Planck Society seeks to increase the number of women in areas, where they are underrepresented, and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply. The Max Planck Society strives for gender and diversity equality. We welcome applications from all backgrounds.
