Major satellite repeats (MSR) are AT-rich tandem repetitive sequences that underlie pericentric heterochromatin in the mouse genome. Transcription of MSR is silenced by repressive chromatin modifications and DNA methylation on pericentric heterochromatin. However, MSR is transcriptionally competent during cell cycle, development and under stress conditions. The non-coding MSR RNA has an architectural role in heterochromatin de novo assembly as well as maintenance. I am interested in studying the transcriptional regulatory mechanism of MSR by searching the promoter of MSR transcription.
