2-4 December 2026 | Register now.
The Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics (MPI-IE) will host the 8th Max Planck Freiburg Epigenetics Meeting from 2 to 4 December 2026. The biennial meeting has earned an international reputation as a stimulating and scientifically rigorous event in the chromatin and epigenetics field. Now in its seventeenth year, the organizers again are committed to creating an great environment for epigenetic research — a place where exciting data and novel ideas collide.

27 international speakers
The meeting stays true to its well-known format: deliberately intimate, with a hand-picked invited speakers, no parallel sessions, poster sessions run long by design, ample time for open discussion, and the kind of candid scientific exchange that bigger conferences rarely allow. In 2026, the institute is happy to confirm 27 speakers from Harvard, Oxford, EMBL, Cold Spring Harbor, Max Planck and beyond – covering a broard range of topics including Transcription Regulation, Chromatin Dynamics, Inheritance and Cancer & Disease.

The Max Planck Keynote
This year’s keynote lecture will be delivered by Elisabeth Binder, Director of the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry in Munich. Her keynote brings an important translational aspect to the program. The Binder lab has mapped how stress hormones drive lasting epigenetic change in the brain — from prenatal development through to adult psychiatric vulnerability — combining epigenomics, iPSC-derived models, and deeply phenotyped human cohorts.

Selected talks and posters from the abstracts
In addition to these talks, the meeting will include selected presentations from submitted abstracts and dedicated poster sessions, providing opportunities for researchers at all career stages to share their work. As in previous years, the conference is designed to encourage open discussion, informal exchange, and the development of lasting scientific collaborations within the epigenetics and chromatin community.
