DESCRIPTION:José Antonio Enríquez Domínguez\, group leader at the Spanis
h National Center for Cardiovascular Research in Madrid\, investigates the
mammalian mitochondrial electron transport chain (MtETC) and H+-ATP synth
ase\, which together constitute the oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) sys
tem. The team wants to understand its role in health and disease and is pa
rticularly interested in the role of the OXPHOS system in the development
of the cardiovascular system\, its relevance to ischemia-reperfusion\, and
its influence on microvascular blood flow. José Enríquez joins the Max
Planck Special Guest Lecture Series on 17 May 2018. He will give a talk en
titled “Mitochondria: we are always close to the finish\, we never reach
it.” The lecture starts in the Main Lecture Hall of the MPI-IE at 1pm.
