MIAP Ethics in Image Analysis Workshop 2018
Image editing and presentation are not always easy. In order to provide all scientists and students with the proper tools and knowledge to avoid common pitfalls, to spot imaging fraud, and to prepare sound images to prevent fraud, MIAP organizes the workshop Ethics in Image Analysis Workshop 2018 together with the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics.

Scientific fraud has become a serious concern in life sciences, as in all segments of science. Microscopic image presentation is a serious and, unfortunately, common source of fraud in life science publications. As image editing is commonplace during data analysis and presentation, even unwanted changes quickly lead to irregular and often illegal figures.

So, image editing and presentation are not always easy. In order to provide all MIAP scientists with the proper tools and knowledge to avoid common pitfalls, to spot imaging fraud, and to prepare sound images to prevent fraud, we organized this workshop together with the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics.

This workshop is dedicated to all researchers publishing microscopic image data who wish to do so in a lawful manner and who wish to learn about common pitfalls and how to avoid them. The workshop includes presentations from experts in the field and from a renowned journal editor, as well as open question sessions and multiple hands-on sessions.

Sessions will be held by dedicated image analysis specialists Vibor Laketa and Holger Lorenz, who are known proponents of ethical imaging and have given multiple similar workshops. They are joined by Jana Christopher, an image integrity specialist, who started the image integrity program at EMBO press and now heads her own company Image-Integrity (more details on the speakers).
