SGS: Bas van Steensel - Probing the logic of genome architecture

Bas and his lab made important contributions to the understanding of gene regulation, chromatin and lamina-associated domains and have developed innovative methods such as massively parallel reporter approaches, DamID and many of its derivatives. A recent work from his lab used a transposon-based technique to relocate (hop) DNA locally to thousands of genomic positions. This allowed them to investigate the positional relationship of the Sox2 promoter and its distal enhancer. Bas' lab has also been great at promoting open communication of science.
