Nadine Vastenhouw is Associate Professor at the Center for Integrative Genomics (CIG), University of Lausanne (UNIL), Switzerland, where her lab uses zebrafish embryos to study how the transcriptional machinery and chromatin template are brought together in time and space to regulate transcription during vertebrate development, focusing on the maternal-to-zygotic transition when developmental control passes from maternal to zygotic gene products.

Trained in molecular genetics, she dissected transposon silencing and RNA interference in the roundworm C. elegans during her PhD with Ronald Plasterk at the Hubrecht Institute, before turning to zebrafish to investigate how chromatin structure shapes the onset of embryonic transcription. She holds a PhD from Utrecht University and completed postdoctoral research in Alexander Schier's lab at Harvard University.
