Girls’ Day 2025
Career orientation for Future Day 2025 at the MPI in Freiburg as part of the nationwide Girls’ Day initiative. On April 3, 2025, the doors of the MPI-IE will be open to interested girls, offering them the chance to explore the exciting world of bioinformatics, biophysics, and molecular biology, as well as gain insight into the career path of a researcher.
Are you at least in the eighth grade and have a keen interest in the natural sciences? Then get to know the profession of a researcher at the Max Planck Institute Freiburg on 3 April 2025 on Girls' Day.
What is it about?

Epigenetics, Biophysics, and Bioinformatics: Genes are like a blueprint in our cells. But how much do they really determine who we are? Epigenetics shows us that our environment can influence this blueprint! It acts like a dial, turning genes up or down – without changing the blueprint itself. But how does this happen? Various mechanisms are responsible, and we study them here at the Max Planck Institute using molecular and bioinformatics methods.
For Girls’ Day 2025, we’d like to show you some of these mechanisms: How do you plan an experiment with fruit flies? How is DNA sequenced? Take a glimpse inside a research lab and discover the amazing methods from bioinformatics and biophysics that are driving the latest advances in epigenetics.
So, if you’re not afraid of tackling complex but exciting biological connections and your thumbs are ready to pipette, sign up now for Future Day 2025 at the Max Planck Institute in Freiburg!
The event will be in German. If you would like to register, please read the details on our German website.
