Lounge and canteen

Also for external guests

The canteen at the Max Planck Institute of Immunobiology and Epigenetics will close on 30 April 2026 — hopefully only temporarily. The Institute is already exploring new options for lunch services. We will keep our guests updated on this page.

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the entire Bächle family and team, who have supported us with dedication and delicious meals over the past few years!

Canteen

The Betriebsrestaurant Max Planck Institut is located on the Institute's premises at Stübeweg 51 and is open to the public. The canteen has a total capacity of 230 seats: 180 seats inside and 50 seats at the big roof-top terrace.

The canteen features a diverse menu that provides two different dishes each work day, ensuring variety and promoting a balanced diet. The offerings include meat and fish, with a vegetarian option always available and a vegan choice frequently included. The menu is further enhanced by a selection of pasta dishes, soup, and a fresh salad buffet provided daily. For beverages, guests can choose between water, coffee, and a variety of soft drinks.

Opening hours (Monday - Friday)

Breakfast: 9:30 to 11:00
Lunch: 11:30 to 13:30

Food on site or to take away
Payment options: cash or card (also contactless)

Please note: The canteen is also open to external guests. Access is via the large roof terrace and is signposted. No registration required.

Lounge (only internal)

The lounge of the MPI-IE was established in October 2008 and is the central meeting point for scientists and visitors alike. It fosters informal and colloquial get-togethers in a relaxed atmosphere and has become a vital part of the Institute.

Self-service: employees can enjoy a snack from the well-stocked vending machines or a coffee speciality from the coffee machine.

Please note: The lounge is exclusively available to MPI-IE employees and their guests.
