Dirk van Bekkum Award to YuWei Zhang

A young researcher from the MPI of Immunobiology and Epigenetics receives New Investigator Award by ISEH

September 30, 2022

YuWei Zhang is the recipient of the 2022 Dirk van Bekkum Award. The International Society for Experimental Hematology (ISEH) honored the young researcher who just recently received her Ph.D. in the lab of Nina Cabezas-Wallscheid with the first prize for a young PhD investigator during its 52nd Annual Meeting in Edinburgh.

The ISEH Annual meeting with more than 500 attendees from the broad fields of basic hematology, immunology, and stem cell research gathers renowned scientists from around the world. At the meeting, the international hematology and stem cell community supports the work of young scientists and highlights cutting-edge abstracts that caught attention during the event.

Up to three researchers with the highest-ranked abstracts in the categories Ph.D./MD or Postdoc are invited to give a presentation during the Young Investigator Award Sessions and get reviewed by an anonymous panel of scientific judges.

Max Planck researcher YuWei Zhang received the first prize in the category Ph.D./MD for her talk on “GPRC5C is critical for healthy hematopoiesis and acute myeloid leukemia”. The jury honored her work on the dormant human hematopoietic stem cell compartment with the Dirk van Bekkum Award named after the famous dutch pioneer of bone marrow transplantation.
