Faithful propagation of chromatin states across cell divisions is crucial for human development and a healthy lifespan. This process is however challenged by several factors including DNA replication, which poses the biggest threat to epigenome maintenance. In S-phase, as the chromatin undergoes gross remodelling, symmetric recycling of histones along with their associated epigenetic information is essential to maintain cell fate and cell identity. I am investigating the mechanisms and regulation of histone recycling during DNA replication in Schizosaccharomyces pombe. Combining genome-wide screening and functional genomics, I aim to identify new chaperones and replisome components which are involved in the handling and recycling of H2A-H2B dimers. In addition, I will be studying the nexus between cellular signalling and histone recycling.
