Max Planck Special Guest Lecture Series

José Enríquez - Mitochondria: we are always close to the finish, we never reach it.

José Antonio Enríquez Domínguez, group leader at the Spanish National Center for Cardiovascular Research in Madrid, investigates the mammalian mitochondrial electron transport chain (MtETC) and H+-ATP synthase, which together constitute the oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) system. The team wants to understand its role in health and disease and is particularly interested in the role of the OXPHOS system in the development of the cardiovascular system, its relevance to ischemia-reperfusion, and its influence on microvascular blood flow. José Enríquez joins the Max Planck Special Guest Lecture Series on 17 May 2018. He will give a talk entitled “Mitochondria: we are always close to the finish, we never reach it.” The lecture starts in the Main Lecture Hall of the MPI-IE at 1pm. Meeting

Pint of Science Freiburg

Pint of Science is an international festival which brings together scientists and the general publicto discuss about science in a very unusual environment: in a pub with a good pint of beer. For the first time, Freiburg joins the worldwide “Pint of Science” community, spread over 21 countries, and already involving seven cities around Germany. Over three days from May 14th to 16th, the Wirtshaus Goldener Sternen at Tennenbacher Platz in Freiburg will host the worldwide event, every evening from 6pm until 9pm. Tickets are limited! [more]

Ralf Sommer – Nature vs. Nurture: Genetics and epigenetics of phenotypic plasticity and the first self-recognition system in nematodes

Ralf Sommer, Director of the Department Integrative Evolutionary Biology at the Max Planck Institute for Developmental Biology in Tübingen, joins the our Special Guest Lecture Series on April 26, 2018. At 1pm he will give a talk on “Nature vs. Nurture: Genetics and epigenetics of phenotypic plasticity and the first self-recognition system in nematodes” in the Main Lecture Hall of the Institute. Craig Ceol - Deconstructing the melanoma genome

Craig Ceol is Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester (MA, USA). The cancer researcher is focused on malignant melanoma, a very aggressive type of skin cancer. He and his team at UMass work on the understanding of genetic defects that underlie tumor initiation and maintenance by using zebrafish as a model organism. On April 12th, 2018 at 13 o'clock Craig Ceol will give a talk entitled “Deconstructing the melanoma genome” in the Lecture Hall of the MPI. Max Planck Special Guest Lecture Series

Nikolaus Rajewsky - Single cell sequencing in space and time

System biologist Nikolaus Rajewsky from Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine in the Helmholtz Association, Germany will visit the MPI-IE and join our Special Guest Lecture Series. On April 05, 2018 he will give a talk entitled “Single cell sequencing in space and time.” The event starts in the Main Lecture Hall of the MPI-IE at 1pm. Symposium

TriRhena transcription and chromatin club in Basel

The tri-national "Transcription and Chromatin Club" is a half-day symposium that brings together chromatin, epigenetics, and transcription groups from within the Strasbourg (IGBMC), Freiburg (MPI-IE), and Basel (FMI) area. In addition to external keynote speakers, PhD students and Postdocs are encouraged to present their work. With an informal but high quality atmosphere, the meeting aims to foster discussion and inspiring new and strengthen existing collaborations.
