Max Planck Seminar

Craig Ceol - Deconstructing the melanoma genome

Craig Ceol is Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester (MA, USA). The cancer researcher is focused on malignant melanoma, a very aggressive type of skin cancer. He and his team at UMass work on the understanding of genetic defects that underlie tumor initiation and maintenance by using zebrafish as a model organism. On April 12th, 2018 at 13 o'clock Craig Ceol will give a talk entitled “Deconstructing the melanoma genome” in the Lecture Hall of the MPI. Symposium

TriRhena transcription and chromatin club in Basel

The tri-national "Transcription and Chromatin Club" is a half-day symposium that brings together chromatin, epigenetics, and transcription groups from within the Strasbourg (IGBMC), Freiburg (MPI-IE), and Basel (FMI) area. In addition to external keynote speakers, PhD students and Postdocs are encouraged to present their work. With an informal but high quality atmosphere, the meeting aims to foster discussion and inspiring new and strengthen existing collaborations. Max Planck Special Guest Lecture Series

Luca Scorrano - Keeping mitochondria in shape: a matter of life and death

On March 15th, 2018 Luca Scorrano, Professor of Biochemistry at University of Padova and Scientific Director of the Venetian Institute of Molecular Medicine (VIMM, Padova, Italy), is invited by the MPI-IE Post-Doc representatives to give a talk in the Max Planck Special Guest Lecture Series in Freiburg. The expert for mitochondria morphology will give a talk about “Keeping mitochondria in shape: a matter of life and death” in the Main Lecture Hall of the MPI-IE starting at 14:30 pm. Jörg Büscher – Metabolomik: Dem biochemischen Fingerabdruck des Stoffwechsels auf der Spur.

The talk series “Forschung höchstpersönlich” was established in 2012 at the MPI-IE. Four times a year, scientists of the institute present their research within a broader context to non-scientific employees to allow better insights into the performed research. The talks are hosted by the public relations officer of the institute and are given in German. (http://www.ie-freiburg.mpg.de/events/13019/4678708) [more]
