In remembrance of Prof Gunther Neuhaus

Gunther Neuhaus, long-term member of the MPI-IE Board of Trustees, has passed away

“We mourn the untimely passing of our former Board of Trustee member Prof. Dr. Gunther Neuhaus. In this role, he accompanied our institute for many years and strengthened the exchange between the University of Freiburg and the Max Planck Institute on multiple layers. Gunther Neuhaus has made a decisive contribution to the emergence of the Freiburg biomedical research community in the last decade. The entire scientific community in Freiburg loses a dedicated advocate for research, collegial interactions, and scientific curiosity. He will be sorely missed. We express our sincere condolences to his family.”

Professor Gunther Neuhaus played a key role in the development of the University of Freiburg from 2012 to 2020 – as Prorector for Research and Innovation and from 2014 as Vice-Rector. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the MPI of Immunobiology and Epigenetics from 2013 to 2020. In 2018, the university together with partners at University Medical Center, and the MPI of Immunobiology and Epigenetics was successful in the Excellence Strategy with the cluster of excellence CIBSS, which Neuhaus, a biologist, strongly supported.
