We are actually a lot closer to the bugs than we thought, at least epigenetically. A research group at the MPI of Immunobiology and Epigenectis led by Andrew Pospisilik published a paper in Cell describing how dysregulation of an imprinted gene network leads to both lean and obese phenotypes in individuals with the identical genotype. Want to know why this has anything to do with butterflies and honey bees?
