ELAV proteins have been shown to regulate alternative splicing and alternative polyadenylation during Drosophila neurogenesis. In mammals the ELAVL proteins have been associated with a wide range of neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative diseases. To date, the molecular mechanisms how ELAVL proteins regulate human neurogenesis remain elusive. In the duration of my PhD, I want to uncover the fundamental mechanisms by which ELAVL proteins mediate the emergence of neuronal transcriptome and its impact on neurodegenerative diseases.
