Max Planck Epigenetics Meeting 2018

For the 5th time the Max Planck Epigenetics Meeting on the broad area of epigenetics and chromatin takes place at the MPI-IE in Freiburg.

December 04, 2018

Every second year, the international epigenetics and chromatin research community commute to idyllic Freiburg at the foot of the Black Forest in Germany. The reason: Since 2010, the Max Planck Epigenetics Meeting takes place at the MPI for Immunobiology and Epigenetics and has since then become a central conference in the field of chromatin and epigenetics.

Epigenetics refers to heritable changes in gene expression that does not involve changes to the underlying DNA sequence. Epigenetic mechanisms such as histone modification, nucleosome remodeling, DNA methylation, non-coding RNAs, and transcription factors are considered to play fundamental roles in epigenetic regulation. In the last decade, it became further apparent that epigenetics plays an essential role in a variety of human diseases.

The three-day meeting provides an international platform for cutting-edge research in the field and gives renowned speakers as well as excellent junior researchers the opportunity to present the latest data and findings in over 40 lectures and poster presentations. Various panels on Non-coding DNA, Transcription Regulation, Genome Organization, Higher Order Structuring as wells as Inheritance and Cancer will cover the latest advances in the field. The conference, organized by Max Planck Directors Asifa Akhtar and Thomas Jenuwein, is committed to connecting scientists and their research topics from the different areas.

On the first conference day, Anthony Hyman, Director at the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology, Dresden, Germany will give the keynote talk entitled: „Biomolecular condensates and their implications for physiology and disease“.

The poster prize is presented by the CRC 992 „Medical Epigenetics“ (MEDEP) at the University of Freiburg. The winners will be announced on Friday, December 7th, 2018.
