Richard Morimoto, Bill and Gayle Cook Professor of Biology and Director of the Rice Institute for Biomedical Research at Northwestern University, Illinois, USA, joins the Max Planck Freiburg Special Guest Lecture Series in March 2018. On the 22nd of March (starting 1pm in the Main Lecture Hall of the MPI-IE) he will give a talk entitled “The Biology of Proteostasis in Aging and Neurodegenerative Disease”. Alexander Stark group leader at Research Institute of Molecular Pathology (IMP) in Vienna joins the Max Planck Special Guest Lecture Series at the MPI-IE. His research is focused on studying regulators of gene expression by combining systematic genome-wide experiments and computational analyses. On March 2nd, 2018 at 13 o'clock he will give a talk entitled “Decoding transcriptional regulation”. Emmanouil T. Dermitzakis is Professor at the Department of Genetic Medicineand Development (University of Geneva Medical School, Switzerland). In his lab on Functional Population Genomics and Genetics of Complex Traits Laboratory he and his team are focussing on genome-wide analysis of gene expression variation and cellular phenotypes and association with nucleotide variation with a focus on disease susceptibility. Emmanouil joins the MPI-IE Special Guest Lecture Series with a talk on “Contribution of non-coding DNA to complex disease and cancer”. The talks takes place in the Main Lecture Hall of the institute on October 12, 2017 – starting 1pm. [mehr]

Vijay Tiwari from the IMB Mainz will give his talk entitled “Deciphering the Epigenetic Code of Brain Development and Function” at the MPI-IE Freiburg on Friday, May 12th, 2017 (1pm). The talk will be given in Main Lecture Hall of the Institute. [mehr]

Judith Zaugg and her team investigate the variation of molecular phenotypes among individuals along with their genetic variation. This focus on personalized genomics aims on a better understanding of the molecular basis of complex genetic diseases and inter-individual differences in drug response. Judith Zaugg will come to the MPI-IE on Friday, June 16th, 2017. She will give a talk at 1pm in the Main Lecture Hall. The title of the talk will be "Using variation in gene regulatory elements across individuals to gain insights in disease mechanisms". [mehr]

Prof. Dr. Laszlo Tora, Research Director at the institut de génétique et de biologie moléculaire et cellulaire (IGBMC) in Strasbourg, France will give a talk the MPI-IE. His talk is entitled “The role of co-activator complexes in regulating RNA polymerase II transcription” and takes place in the Main Lecture Hall of the institute on Monday, 24 4 2017 at 1pm. [mehr]

Irmgard Sinning is professor at the Heidelberg University Biochemistry Center (Germany), Leibniz Prize awardee in 2014 and expert in the field of membrane proteins. She will visit the MPI-IE in April and share her expertise in the MPI-IE seminar series. As usual, the event takes place in the Main Lecture Hall of the institute at 13h. The talk is entitled “RAC/Ssb – a unique chaperone triad on the ribosome”. [mehr]

Dr. Manolis Papamichos-Chronakis will visit the MPI-IE on Monday, April 3rd, 2017. The expert on chromatin dynamics will give his talk in Main Lecture Hall at 1pm. Winship Herr, Professor at the Center for Integrative Genomics (University of Lausanne), visits MPI-IE in February. During his stay he will give a lecture on “Regulation of mammalian cell metabolism and proliferation via the versatile HCF-1 transcription hub”.
